Clearance Effects on Bilinear Normal Mode Frequencies
The eects of a clearance or interference on the normal mode frequencies of a n-dof system with bilinear stiness and without damping are investigated through various modi®cations of the bilinear frequency relation. First, the exact penetration distances and bilinear natural frequencies of a single-degree-offreedom system are analytically obtained in terms of the amount of clearance and the str...
متن کاملElastic Pekeris waveguide normal mode solution comparisons against laboratory data.
Following the derivation presented by Press and Ewing [Geophysics 15, 426-446 (1950)], a normal mode solution for the Pekeris waveguide problem with an elastic bottom is outlined. The analytic solution is benchmarked against data collected in an experiment performed at the Naval Research Laboratory [Collis et al., J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 122, 1987-1993 (2007)]. Comparisons reveal a close match betw...
متن کاملA profile likelihood method for normal mixture with unequal variance
It is well known that the normal mixture with unequal variance has unbounded likelihood and thus the corresponding global maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) is undefined. One of the commonly used solutions is to put a constraint on the parameter space so that the likelihood is bounded and then one can run the EM algorithm on this constrained parameter space to find the constrained global MLE. H...
متن کاملStabilizing Sliding Mode Control for Homogeneous Bilinear Systems
The stabilization of homogeneous bilinear systems constitutes the main interest of this paper. A sliding mode control is suggested and a stability study is held leading to sufficient conditions of global stabilization. The sliding surface is determined through the resolution of the nonlinear constraints of stabilization. Simulations on numerical examples are presented proving the effectiveness ...
متن کاملBilinear modeling solution approach for fixed charge network flow problems
We present a continuous, bilinear formulation for the fixed charge network flow problem. This formulation is used to derive an exact algorithm for the fixed charge network flow problem converging in a finite number of steps. Some preliminary computational experiments are reported to show the performance of the algorithm.
